DØP stands apart with its exceptional selection of gourmet meats, featuring options like cheese-infused sausages, zesty spiced beef, and even savory goat sausages. During our visit, we opted for the Spicy Beef variety, a decision we thoroughly enjoyed. The standout feature of DØP’s hot dogs is the sourdough-based bun, crafted from a blend of whole wheat and nutrient-rich linseed. Complementing the delectable sausages, we adorned our hot dogs with a medley of toppings, including tangy mustard, classic ketchup, and the signature remoulade. Additionally, the indulgence was elevated with the addition of crispy fried onions, zesty fresh onions, and a touch of zingy pickles.
5. Aamans Deli

Experience the epitome of Smorrebrod indulgence at Copenhagen’s renowned Aamans Deli. Nestled among the city’s finest establishments, Aamans Deli has emerged as a coveted destination for enthusiasts of this traditional Danish delight. Despite our take-away circumstances during our recent visit, the symphony of flavors was in no way diminished. As we savored our selections outdoors, the Cold Smoked Salmon, artfully paired with chives mayo, apples, kohlrabi, pickled onions, frisee, and rye crumble (79 DK), delighted our taste buds. Equally impressive was the Roast Beef Smorrebrod, boasting Bearnaise sauce, pickled cucumber, mushrooms, crispy potatoes, and thyme (74 DK), a combination that left an indelible mark, particularly the classic Roast Beef variant. Our only regret was not partaking in a park picnic, an option that would have seamlessly elevated the experience, showcasing the flexibility of Aamans Deli’s offerings.
6. Hart Bageri

This unique local bakery stands out as a true gem. With its exceptional reputation and an extensive array of freshly baked goods and pastries, it’s truly a haven for enthusiasts of delectable treats. During our visit, we were drawn to the exquisite Kardemom croissant (40DK) and the tantalizing Pandancake (around 25 DK).
While the bakery itself lacks indoor seating, the option to enjoy your selections on the outdoor bench or as a convenient takeaway adds to the experience. The Kardemom croissant, a true masterpiece, left an indelible impression. Its exterior boasted a delightful coating, concealing a warm and irresistibly flaky interior. A delightful surprise awaited beneath – a delicate layer of cardamom-infused sugar that elevated every bite to a sublime delight.
Equally enchanting was the Pandancake, skillfully crafted to perfection. What truly stood out was its balanced sweetness, a testament to expert baking. The flavors danced harmoniously, ensuring a memorable experience without overwhelming the senses.
7. Meyers Bageri

Embark on a delectable journey with Meyers Bageri, an iconic Danish bakery gracing various corners of the city. We were enchanted by the seamless blend of bakery allure and café comfort that this establishment offers. With ample seating, it’s not just a bakery – it’s a welcoming haven for those seeking a moment of culinary respite.
While the pastry selection might be more curated compared to other local bakeries, Meyers Bageri triumphs in authenticity and taste. A treasure trove of Danish classics graces their offerings, and our ultimate choice was the exquisite Tebirkes (35 DK). This delectable treat transcends expectations, featuring a harmonious marriage of flaky, buttery dough embracing a sumptuous marzipan filling. Crowned with delicate poppy seeds, each bite is a symphony of textures and flavors that dance on the palate. The Tebirkes experience at Meyers Bageri is a culinary sojourn that etches a lasting memory in our gastronomic adventures.
8. Restaurant Schønneman

Anticipating an exceptional dining experience, we made an advance reservation for 11:30. Our expectations were surpassed as we discovered the popularity of Schonneman restaurant; it was fully booked from the moment its doors opened. The attentive and humor-filled staff set the tone for our memorable visit. Our culinary journey commenced with a Danish beer, expertly recommended by the waiter, who also guided us to a delightful Acquavit pairing for our meal.
Our appetizers, two delectable Smorrebrod selections, showcased the essence of Danish cuisine. The Pickled Spiced Herring, adorned with creme fraiche, onions, and capers (110 DK), and the classic Fried Fillet of Plaice with remoulade, dill, and lemon (144 DK), delighted our palates. While both options were exceptional, the herring Smorrebrod stole the spotlight, not only for its flavor but also its presentation.
As our culinary exploration continued, we savored a final Smorrebrod creation: Boiled Salted Duck Breast with horseradish cream, lingonberry, and watercress. Our knowledgeable waiter shared that typically two Smorrebrod are recommended per person for a satisfying lunch; however, sharing these three exquisite creations between us proved to be more than ample.
After indulging in lunch at Schonneman restaurant, we departed feeling truly immersed in an authentic Danish Smorrebrod experience. The flavors, the ambiance, and the attentive service all contributed to a culinary journey that celebrated the heart of Danish gastronomy.

If you’re a seafood and fish enthusiast, Fiskebar in Copenhagen’s vibrant Kodbyens district is a must-visit destination. Our recent dining experience at Fiskebar left us in awe of their delectable offerings. With a reservation in hand and a desire to enjoy the outdoors, we opted for a cozy spot outside. Our culinary journey began with two delectable appetizers: the Salmon Tartare with a delightful blend of tarragon, mustard cress, and sesame (175 DK), and the Danish Mackerel paired harmoniously with grilled raspberries, roses, and tomato (165 DK).
For the main course, we indulged in the exquisite flavors of Norwegian Halibut accompanied by razor clam, courgette, and tomato (245 DK), and savored the succulent taste of Swedish Grilled Langoustines enhanced with seaweed and lemon (295 DK).
Our culinary journey reached its pinnacle as we concluded with a delightful Danish Cheese Platter (155 DK). This platter showcased a tantalizing selection of cheeses, including the Julsø Maestro, Nora Mundo, Brie fra Møn, and Søtoftes Søblå – a true symphony of flavors that left our taste buds dancing.
